Aphasia Space is an independent Speech and Language Therapy service providing online therapy to adult clients in the UK. Aphasia Space is operated by Laura Prince, an independent Speech and Language Therapist. Laura is also the data controller responsible for the personal information collected through this website and in the provision of speech and language therapy services.

When you visit www.aphasia.space, the website is hosted by Squarespace may collect information including:

Enquiries

If you contact Aphasia Space by email or through the website, the information you provide will be used to respond to your enquiry and for correspondence relating to future therapy if requested.

Speech and language therapy clients

If you become a client, then additional information may be collected and stored as relevant:

  • Contact information: (such as your name, email address and phone number)

  • Relevant medical history as is relevant to speech and language therapy

  • Speech and language therapy information: (such as assessment results and clinical notes)

  • Audio/video recordings: (Audio or video recordings may be used or made during therapy sessions to support assessment, treatment planning and to demonstrate baseline and progress. This will only be done with your agreement and where clincally useful.)

  • Emergency contact details

  • GP / other healthcare professional details, where relevant

Why we use your information

Your information is used to:

  • Provide speech and language therapy services

  • Maintain clinical records

  • Communicate with you about appointments, therapy and billing

  • Support your safety and continuity of care

  • Meet professional, legal and regulatory obligations

  • Improve the website and its functionality

Lawful basis for processing

Personal information is processed as is necessary for the performance of a contract to provide you with speech and language therapy.

Health information is processed as special category data for the provision of healthcare and treatment under Article 9(2)(h) of the UK General Data Protection Regulations, 2018 (UK GDPR).

Sharing information

Your information will be treated confidentially. It will never be sold to third parties.

Information will only be shared when necessary, for example:

  • With other healthcare professionals involved in your care (with your agreement)

  • If required by law

  • If there is a serious concern about your safety or the safety of another person

I use third party services for website hosting, email and document storage and video consultations including Squarespace, Google Workspace, Zoom and Microsoft Teams. These providers may process personal information on my behalf and are required to protect it appropriately in accordance with UK law.

Some service providers may process data outside the UK. Where this happens, appropriate safegyards are used to protect your information.

How your information is stored

Information is stored using secure electronic systems and is only accessible to those who need access for the purposes described in this policy.

How long information is kept

Client records are retained for up to 8 years after the end of therapy, in line with professional and legal requirements, after which they are securely deleted.

Enquiry data that does not result in therapy is retained for up to 12 months and then securely deleted.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • Request access to your personal information

  • Request the correction of inaccurante information

  • Request erasure of information in certain circumstances

  • Request restriction of processing in certain circumstances

  • Object to processing in certain circumstances

  • Request a copy of information you have provided to me
